Who We Are


Girls in Games is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to encourage and support women in the gaming industry.
 
It provides a supportive forum to exchange ideas, develop contacts, and pursue experimental projects. Our goal is to create a structure to provide ongoing mentorship and guidance to aspiring women in creating an independent game. It is a venue to gain experience in creating and producing games as well as managing development teams in a collaborative environment.

What We Do


We seek to attract and promote women in the areas of design, art, audio programming and business development in the Gaming Industry. Our goal is to provide participants with experience to help build resumes and portfolios.

Leadership


Sande Chen - Project Director, Design Lead

Sande Chen has been active in the gaming industry for over five years. She has written for mainstream and industry publications and was a contributor to the book, Secrets of the Game Business, on the topic of online business models. Her past game credits include 1999 IGF winner Terminus, Siege of Avalon, Scooby Doo, and JamDat Scrabble. She graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with dual degrees in Writing and in Economics and received a full-tuition scholarship for postgraduate study at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Afterwards, she continued her interest in screenwriting, earning a M.F.A. at the University of Southern California. While still a cinema student, she was nominated in 1996 for a Grammy in music video direction. As a free-lance writer and consultant, she strives to combine her love of creative media with her analytical skills.

Michelle Sorger- Director of Development, Audio Lead

Michelle has over 14 years of experience in the game industry. She has worked on many titles from arcade experiences to home console products. She has over 35 titles to her credit working both as an in-house audio director and a freelance designer. Titles include: "Ivan Iron Man Stewart's Super Off Road", (arcade platform) as well as the Ken Griffrey Jr. series on the N64, "Major League Baseball Featuring Ken Griffey, Jr." and "Ken Griffey, Jr.'s Slugfest." She is a gold member of G.A.N.G. and was part of the development team that won a Software Innovation Award in 1995 for the game "Street Hockey '95". She is currently a freelance game developer./span>

Andy Hsiung - Programming Lead

Andy Hsiung is a ten-year programming veteran in the videogame industry. He has worked primarily on consoles, ranging from the Super Nintendo to the Playstation 2. One of the Super Nintendo titles he
worked on was "Aaahh!!! Real Monsters," for Nickelodeon.

At Realtime Associates, he was the lead programmer for the game
"BattleStations," where he managed a cross-platform programming team. The game was published by Electronic Arts for the Playstation and the Sega Saturn. He also worked on the port of "Gex 2" for the Nintendo 64 at Realtime.

Recent titles that he worked on include "Heroes of Might and Magic"
and "Spyro the Dragon," both for the Playstation 2. He is currently
working on "Fantastic Four," slated for release with the movie for
summer, 2005.
